Sector
Trade Investment
Stocks and
share markets are tricky places to deal in. Every country in
the world has a stock exchange market, with the London Stock
Exchange in the UK being the financial market where some of the
best companies in the world deal in stocks.
And its true that a
person can do all possible research on the subject matter
and even manage to get a good stock but the fact of the
matter is that if the stock itself has a bad reputation it
will get you nowhere.
When
talking about sector or specifically sector trade investment,
the first question that comes to ones mind is, what exactly is
a sector?
A sector
‘driver’ is most crucial to the success of any
investment.
Two
well-known financial dictionaries, the Dictionary of Finance
and Investment Terms (Barron's) and Wall Street
Words (Houghton Mifflin), essentially describe a sector as
being a group of companies that share similar characteristics
with each other. Airlines can make up a sector and so can
camera manufacturers. However sectors can also be of a broader
category. Companies that are interest-rate sensitive like
banks, heavy capital-equipment manufacturers and homebuilders
can also come within the term sector.
In
terms of trade and investment, stocks of particular
sectors are clubbed or grouped together. And so when a
certain sector of stocks is doing well or not fairing
that well for that matter, an investor comes to know the
condition of stocks that are included under that
particular sector. To keep up with the ups and downs of
the share market the most one can do is, constantly check
for updates on analyst reports, trade journals and as
well as keeping up with every and all news related to or
relevant to one’s stocks. Other than that, there are also
certain sites that provide helpful information and
regular updates with stock news.
SmartMoney.com with its Java apps
filters out almost an entire market worth of information for
you and it does so in different, easy-to-use charts. They
give the performance level of different sectors as well as
the performance levels of individual companies under each
sector.
JavaTicker.com is a site that helps
track prices of stocks within a certain sector. A scrolling
ticker can be set onto stocks selected from a list of
sectors. Also possible to use on the site is a screening
feature that ranks stocks within sectors and can make
earnings per share visible so one can rank
accordingly.
ClearStation.com’s new sector tool
also screens stocks by sector but it gives a much more
detailed and technical viewing.
Philadelphia
Stock Exchange, in contrast to the others, tries to offer
predictions of the future stocks and how they will be
doing through its prices of index
option.
However,
Sectorbase.com, a site used by many an
institutional trader, investment bankers etc. allows one to
make comparisons between companies, right down to the
products they market, including the components that make up
those products.
